January 22, 1748

1748 January 22 (Friday).  Although I was much concerned last Night about my wife’s Journey, I was much less anxious to Day it being a very fine, warm Day.  Mr. [blank] Woods[1] of Summers was here with Deer Leather and dined, I bought a Large skin for which I gave him 13£ old Tenor.

[1]Probably Deacon James Woods of Somers, Conn.

Why Don’t the Days Listed in the Diary Entries before Sept. 15, 1752 Correspond to the Days on the Calendar above?

In 1752, Great Britain and the American colonies switched from the Julian Calendar to the Gregorian Calendar, which we use today in a slightly updated form.
