The Diary of Rev. Ebenezer Parkman

Day: September 5, 1758

September 5, 1758

1758 September 5 (Tuesday).  Mrs. Rice (Capt. Woods Mother) and Mrs. Baker (Esquires Spouse) make us a visit, p.m.  At Eve when they go away there was an heavy Shower.  This visit was the more remarkable as the Squire and his Family have been so great strangers here.  But Mrs. Brigham (her Neece) is full here.

Why Don’t the Days Listed in the Diary Entries before Sept. 15, 1752 Correspond to the Days on the Calendar above?

In 1752, Great Britain and the American colonies switched from the Julian Calendar to the Gregorian Calendar, which we use today in a slightly updated form.
